Music is an outward expression of the inner heart of worship. There are languages for that expression - some people think of them as musical styles. Our "native" language is the one we learn first and that we revert to when we want to express things most deeply. That understanding is why we use different kinds of music in our worship services, from hymns and other poetic texts, to gospel, to songs being written today; from organ to worship band, joined by whatever instruments our musicians are gifted to play. That way, each person of whatever age or background who comes to worship Jesus may hopefully find a moment when their language is being spoken. Some people call this a "blended" service. Truthfully, in musical terms the service doesn't always blend very well at all! But our aim is to blend our hearts as a congregation and be ready to hear what God has to say to us. Each Sunday's scripture message is supported through the music and readings so that there is a unified theme. Many from the congregation participate in reading scripture, leading in prayer, and as musicians. "Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!" For this reason, please come worship with us! We will always try to be "good", in terms of worship that honors the Lord and is helpful to those joining us. But He will never fail. |
