First Covenant Audio MessagesAugust30 August 2009 Pastor Dan Collison Title: “Holding Community Close" Summary: The church is people called by Jesus, committed to Jesus, and gathered in community for Jesus’ sake. Christian community is more than participation in small groups, prayer meetings, or even relational networking such as text messaging, MySpace, or Facebook. These are all good things…but the communally formed church goes deeper.
23 August 2009 Pastor Dan Collison Series: Church without Walls (Part III) Text: Luke 19:45-46, John 15:1-8 Summary: Jesus believed that more than anything else, the Church hould be a house of prayer. Why would Jesus say this? What is a house of rayer? What are the results of a Church that prays? Jesus answered these questions poignantly in describing the relationship between a branch and a vine.
16 August 2009 Pastor Dan Collison Title: “Living God's Word With Humility”. Summary: The Bible is the most published, read and preserved book of all time. Yet, many people find it too complex, confusing, and inaccessible to be relevant. But, it was Jesus that said, "do not liveon food alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God". The Bible is often described as the "Word of God" because Christians understand it as more than a series of ancient historical documents. It is a living and active expression of who God is and what he desires for our lives. It is like daily food to our souls. Church without Walls, part 2.
9 August 2009 Pastor Dan Collison Series: Church without Walls Text: I Peter 1:4-12, Acts 7:44-53 Summary: Repeatedly throughout the Bible, various writers reflect God’s understanding that the Church is not the brick and mortar of buildings, but rather people called by God to serve him, each other, and people who do not yet know Jesus Christ. A Church without Walls is a God-focused community of Christians continually at work welcoming new people into the journey of faith in Jesus Christ. Church without Walls, part 1.
2 August 2009 Pastor Dan Collison Series: Defining Words, Defining Moments Theme: Unswerving and Joyful Commitment to God Text: Matthew 20:20-28 Summary: Human beings are hard-wired to continually ask “what’s in it for me?”. This primal question drives the American consumer culture. It also postures our relationships, career choices, church involvement, civic interests, and even political preferences. Lockstep with 21st century Americans, the disciples of Jesus asked the WIIFM question repeatedly in their three years of Jesus’ earthly ministry. In a scene documented in Matthew chapter 20, Jesus provided the ultimate answer to that question.Matthew 20:20-28; Defining Words, Defining Moments, part IV.
July26 July 2009 Pastor Dan Collison Title: “The Result of Commitment: Joy” Summary: In a world of choices it is rare when a person fully commits herself or himself to any one thing. However, we quickly commit to things that bring us personal joy and fulfillment. The Christian faith is designed by God to be the most joy-filled and holistic experience ever created and thus worthy of unswerving commitment.
19 July 2009 Pastor Dan Collison Series: Defining Words, Defining Moments Summary: Excellence is considered a preeminent value for successful people and organizations. Excellence on behalf of Jesus Christ enhances God’s reputation and clearly communicates his purposes to new generations of people.
12 July 2009 Pastor Dan Collison Title: “Grace: We Need it. We Give it.” Summary: Authenticity by definition refers to the ‘truthfulness of origins, attributions, commitments, sincerity, devotion, and intentions’. Grace is God’s gift of unmerited favor. The convergence of authenticity and grace occurs when God’s audacious gift of grace is both sincerely received and freely extended to others. Grace: We need it…We give it.
5 July 2009 Pastor Rich Theilen "Semper Fi.” Summary: Well-known in the United States as the motto of the United States Marine Corps, the Latin phrase Semper Fidelis has been the slogan of families, communities, and military units around the world since at least the 14th Century. In English, it means, “Always Faithful”—and it’s a fitting way of describing how God has designed us to be.
